SVMS Electronic Device Policy

At Star Valley Middle School, our goal is to keep the focus on learning while helping students build responsible digital habits. We recognize that electronic devices are a regular part of life, but we also believe in minimizing distractions in the classroom.

  1. General Expectations
  • Electronic devices—including cell phones, earbuds, and other personal electronics—should never interfere with the learning environment.
  1. Classroom Use
  • Cell phones are not allowed out during class time. To support this, each classroom will have a designated phone caddy where students will place their phones at the start of class.
  • If a student is seen using a phone during class:
  1. The phone will be placed in a padded envelope and taken to the main office. The student will also receive a behavior referral.
  2. The student may pick up the phone at the end of the school day.
  3. Second offense: A parent or guardian must come to the office to pick up the device.
  4. Repeated violations may lead to further disciplinary actions, such as detention, suspension, or loss of Digital Citizenship privileges.

  1. Before School, After School, Passing Periods, and Breaks
  • Students may have their phones out between classes if usage is appropriate and does not disrupt the school environment.
  1. Locker Rooms and Bathrooms
  • For privacy and safety reasons, electronic devices are never allowed in locker rooms or bathrooms.
  1. Recording & Sharing Misconduct
  • Promoting or recording acts of misbehavior is a direct violation of our electronic device policy.
  • Any misuse, including sharing or encouraging inappropriate behavior through recordings, will result in disciplinary action in accordance with school guidelines.
  1. Emergencies
  • If you need to reach your student during the school day, please call the main office at (307) 885-5208. Our secretaries will relay messages promptly.

Our lost and found fills up quickly. To keep things manageable, we donate unclaimed items to the local thrift store at the end of each month. Please remind your student to check the lost and found for any missing items before then.

A few quick tips:

•Label jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes with your student’s name.

•Encourage your student to check the lost and found regularly.

•If you believe an item is missing, have your student look as soon as possible.

Thank you for helping us keep our spaces tidy and make sure items find their way home.

Yearbook – Yearbook – Yearbook!!

To be guaranteed a yearbook, it must be purchased ($30.00) in the office by December 23rd, 2025.  If you have any questions, please call the office at 307-885-5208.

Don’t forget to send summer activity pictures to svmsyearbook@lcsd2.org
